It’s hard to imagine a time when I wasn’t designing, but believe it or not, there was a time when I was dead set on becoming a concert pianist (haha yes you heard that right). It was all I knew growing up, I went to UCLA to pursue my degree in Piano Performance, but it didn’t work out.

my ‘why’

It was initially difficult for me to reconcile how drastic the career transition seemed, but I’ve actually come to find more similarities in the two than differences. I’ve always been an expressive person, which is why I chose piano, and that hasn’t changed.

Design, to me, shows up in many different ways. On the surface, it’s pushing pixels in Figma.

But beyond the cliche fluff we often hear, design is the ability to convey an idea visually (which I think is the coolest superpower). Being intentional about the craft I put out into the world. It’s musicality. Performing a narrative for an intended audience, Making good choices. Holding strong opinions but loosely at the same time.

Come to think of it, I very rarely come across designers who have always known this was their life track. I think that’s what makes this so special. Guess it was a blessing in disguise piano didn’t work out 😉
